It is really frustrating when your Dish remote control isn’t working. Usually, this issue is typically caused by dead batteries. It is recommended to change the batteries every six months to avoid unexpected inconveniences, especially if you’re in the middle of a show and you do not have another pair of batteries handy. Always get extra batteries!

Am I using the right remote?

Imagine you have 3 receivers, but you have thesame remote model for all of them; it is very easy to get confused and accidentally carry one remote to another room. Every receiver is linked to a specific remote control and must be operated with the paired one.

1. Press the Locate Remote button on the front of the receiver and verify which remote is beeping. The beeping remote is linked to that receiver. Another good idea is to mark the remote or place a sticker with the room name on it.

2. Press and release the SAT button (Don’t hold it down)

3. Access SystemInfo

Press the SYSTEM INFO or SYS INFO button on the front panel of your DISH receiver.

4. Link the remote to your DISH receiver

While System Info is on the TV, press SAT button on the remote again.

If the remote beeps then it has linked to the receiver and should be working; try it now. Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.

5. Replace the batteries

Replace the batteries every six months or if the on-screen indicator shows LOW. Place the new batteries with both rows going the same direction. Try the remote now! In case it is still not working, continue troubleshooting.

6. Check the remote control Antenna located at the back of the receiver

Note: If you are troubleshooting with a Joey, it won’t have the antenna, just skip this step.

Make sure the antenna is standing upright and connected hand-tight to the receiver. There should not be other equipment or cables touching the antenna.

7. Reset your receiver

Unplug the power cord of your Dish receiver from the electrical outlet for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

This reset process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.

8. Repeat Step 3 and 4.
